Three steps to getting a “Yes” to work remotely

At first, many managers fear the kind of flexibility in the way work is done. This is especially true if your proposal work different means they can't see You, as is the case with remote work.

So how do you get a Manager to say "Yes" to a proposal for flexible working, especially if they have not managed to someone long before? The trick is to understand the three managers fear related to flexibility and then address them up front in your proposal:

Managers Fear: "How will the work be done?  I'll end having to do all the work on his own. " Therefore, your manager would say "Yes" If You …

Come to the table with a plan that clearly states how You will do your work if you are working remotely. Key points to include are:

The Proposal should not include "Why" You want to work remotely. It doesn't matter. Try not to get into the reasons for your proposal (for example I want more time with my kids at night).  There is no one reason better than others, so as to remove the potential for judgment. Remains about how you will get your work.
