House panel supports I

Canton has been moving closer to winning the full support of the Michigan legislature for a project that long-sought to reshape I-275/Ford road intersection and ease traffic congestion in the vicinity of one of the most accident-prone area.

The State House could potentially vote as early as this week to support the project after the Council of 17 Transport Committee gives approval Wednesday to a resolution of the sweep had been passed in the Senate.

Legislative support does not come with the guarantee fund. However, the Canton officials touted bipartisan support from State lawmakers are important for two reasons:

  • It could potentially increase the chances of the project secures $ 12.6 million from the third-round federal grant program that has been nicknamed TIGER, or transportation investment generating economic recovery. Federal officials had twice rejected proposals I-275/Ford.
