Operation Christmas Child, which started in 1993 by Samaritan's Purse, has shipped more than 86 million shoeboxes items for children around the world. This year, organizers hope to raise nearly 75,000 boxes of Charlotte.
While OCC collecting shoeboxes year-round at its headquarters in Boone, the project will be the Summit Sunday 14 November for the week of the national collection. Residents can lower the ready box collection sites around the city or volunteers to sort and tape for box.
Kaley Rivera, media associate with Samaritan's Purse, said everyone from church groups to individual companies to donate box boxes packed with OCC. plastic school supplies, hygiene items, small prizes and personal notes.
He recalled one collected OCC Eagle Scout as a project box. He and his mother down the truck full of boxes in September.
